Professional sports today are dominated by the contractual details of free agency and salary caps, the hopeless finances of small-market franchises, and the moral failings of young kids with sudden access to millions of dollars.

But in years past, sports were simpler. Players were larger than life. Fans were loyal to teams, and teams were loyal to fans.

One of those eras was the National Hockey League from 1942 to 1967, the years of The Original Six. For over a quarter of a century, through foreign wars and technological upheaval, the NHL was remarkably stable. Six teams dueled one another year in and year out, developing rivalries that have persisted for another thirty-three years.

So, welcome to this page devoted to NHL's Original Six. Here you will find a season-by-season time line of the Original Six era. Each capsule provides a summary of the season's highlights, its heroes and villains, its facts and figures. For those with an interest in hockey history, I've provided pointers to the sources (both books and links) I found useful in compiling this page. There's even a bookstore where you can order hockey books online.

This is a labor of love for me--and a work-in-progress, as well. So please be patient while I build this page and come back often to see what's new.

Thanks for reading this far. Enjoy!
